They’re old fashioned.
They have this envy to build worlds that are extra-ordinary, but to do it as tangibly as possible. The less CGI, the better.
I remember going to the Sommerset house years ago, to see an exhibition of Tim Walker’s world, and realizing how little post production was involved – no green screen, no added fancy creatures. Just props, a massive amount of work produced by a talented team to meet the expectations of Walker.
In their work, you can sense the admiration they have for artists of the past and how well they mastered their crafts, balanced with the will to honour that with a sense of (re)appropriation.
